Snapchat gets revamped with a new Stories search engine

The popularity of Snapchat has been waning bit by bit over time, mainly due to the appropriation of its features by other social networks – though the app’s annoying UI hasn’t helped much, either. They’ve been working on upgrading the app for a good while and have just announced a new feature that might well give it a breath of new life: a new search engine for public Stories.

Stories started out as a more or less personal way to share private moments from your life, but gradually the functionality has become a broader and more public way of communicating. These condensed snippets of daily living have opened up more and more, though Snapchat’s very nature continues to make it hard for people outside your own circle to find your posts. And this is something Snap’s trying to change, especially when the Stories involve a specific place or subject. Hence the new Stories search engine aims to let you find these disappearing posts when they’re set to public.

Lots of public Stories get boosted by the Snapchat team of curators, but this new feature lets anyone find a ton of Stories, so long as they’re categorized with a keyword (places, events, etc…) and the creator has set them to public.

Though here in Spain we still can’t enjoy this new feature, we’ll tell you all about it when it gets rolled out globally. We hope it gives Snapchat the boost it needs to get some of its popularity back. While it’s definitely still used a lot by a good spectrum of society – especially in the US – the truth is that other social networks have eaten it like toast. Let’s see if its fortunes look up with this creak of opening.
